Joseph A. O'Keefe, Esq.

Joseph A. O'Keefe, Esq., has been engaged in the general practice of law, with an emphasis on commercial litigation and criminal defense matters for over twelve (12) years. Increasingly over the past five years, Attorney O’Keefe has focused his practice almost exclusively on complex federal and state consumer fraud and consumer protection actions, and on state and federal statutory actions. Most recently, Mr. O’Keefe has been certified as class counsel for over 5,000 physicians who have sued large insurance companies under the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt Organization (“RICO”) Act. In certifying Mr. O’Keefe as capable to handle this fiduciary position, the Honorable James Knoll Gardner, United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, noted that Mr. O’Keefe was “more than adequate class counsel,” someone who has “appeared before the [Court] in other federal actions,” has exhibited the requisite legal acumen [to prosecute the Racketeering claims of over 5,000 absent class members],” demonstrates “respect for the court and opposing counsel and an appropriate zeal in advocating for his clients.” Further, Judge Gardner found that Mr. O’Keefe, along with his co-counsel, “individually and collectively displayed their legal skills… with exceptional professionalism.” 1

As he hones his skills in the prosecution of complex Class Actions, it is Mr. O’Keefe’s privilege to have worked with Honorable Louis C. Bechtle, retired Chief Judge for the United States District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania; the Honorable Arlin M. Adams, retired Justice of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and former Secretary of Public Welfare of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; Professor Arthur Miller of Harvard University School of Law; and other nationally recognized class action masters and experts.
Mr. O’Keefe is a 2000 honors graduate of Temple University’s Beasley School of Law’s LL.M. in Trial Advocacy; a 1995 graduate of the Villanova University School of Law where he was an editor of a Law Review Journal, and a 1992 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Neumann College where he obtained a B.A. in Political Science/Pre-Law.

Mr. O’Keefe is admitted to the Pennsylvania bar, as well as the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Court of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for well in excess of five (5) years. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Berks County Bar Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. In addition to his law practice, Mr. O’Keefe has been an active member of the Berks County community. Through the Berks County Bar Association, he initiated and fostered the revival of Berks County’s High School Mock Trial Program. In 2005, as a result of Mr. O’Keefe’s efforts, Berks County was proud to boast thirteen (13) participating high schools that fielded over twenty (20) teams, the highest county-wide participation rate in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He is a past president of the Kutztown Rotary Club, a former Director of the Kutztown Area Chamber of Commerce, and he regularly provides pro-bono legal services to the Tri-Valley YMCA.
